WHENEVER your rolling stock is inspected, it is always the smaller details that catch the eye and get the praise. Undoubtedly you have seen rolling stock of which the owner was very proud, but you noticed was out of proportion and had several imperfections. Naturally you do not want to offend the builder, so you say nothing. You congratulate him, but in the back of your mind you think of the way you would have done it.

Are your models frankly criticized?

There are very few perfect models in existence, but with a' little extra time and effort, you can come close.

Many modelers overlook the minute details when building, those all important details that add untold realism to the finished product. Great care should be used in all operations, all parts should be accurate and to scale.

Self-descriptive construction plans are shown on the following pages of a highly detailed caboose. Additional plans will be shown next month to complete the model. This would be the ideal project for a beginner, as all details are clearly shown. An experienced man should be able to pick up many valuable pointers.

This model and drawings are the work of Jim Stough of Pittsburgh, Pa., an expert who specializes in old types of rolling stock.

On the right is a complete list of parts necessary for the construction of this model. Other material could be substituted if within the specified tolerances. You should have no difficulty in obtaining any of this material as all is readily available. Your workshop will supply most of this material, a hobby dealer can supply the rest.

A highly detailed model deserves a good paint job, one that will be a credit to your craftsmanship.
