A GLYNN GUEST DESIGN

Whilst casting around for another small project I chanced upon a copy of an old Victorian print showing a paddle boat negotiating the cataracts on the River Nile. Now this would be a different type of model with lots of character. A few quick sketches showed that it was possible to produce a workable R/C model of modest dimensions.

Construction

One of the undoubted attractions of these small models is their modest cost. In this case a couple of sheets of 1/8 x 4in. (3 x 100mm) balsa will be more than enough for the basic structure of the model. Thin card, about 1mm thick, is used for the hull sides and deckhouse parts. Card is quite easy to use and effective with the added bonus of being very cheap. Suitable sources of card can be the backs of writing pads, office files and even old cardboard boxes that might otherwise be discarded as rubbish. Should you opt for the luxury of new card then large sheets can be purchased cheaply at stationers, currently less than a pound will get enough card for several such models
