Recent Barnes and Fleck designs are characterized by simple but shapely double chined hulls and propellers enclosed in steering nozzles; usually independent twin screws are used for a high degree of maneuverability. (We couldn't resist including the little sketch, Fig. 1 which says every thing about maneuverability and, incidentally, offers a challenge to keen scale modellers!) There are family characteristics' about the superstructures which all have a tidy, well‑balanced and purposeful look, but of the range the Standard 90ft Twin Screw Berthing Tug struck us as the most harmonious and nicest‑looking. An overall length of 90ft. at ¼ in. scale comes down to 221/2in,, not a very large model but in keeping with the current trend for smallish ones; displacement works out at a whisker over 31/21b., which should be quite adequate for the model, the propulsion, and independent steering/motor control, using modern radio equipment.
