About the Gun: The 3‑pounder served aboard nearly all Royal Navy ships above destroyer size from the late 1800s onward. Originally intended for close‑range defense, it later became the standard saluting gun, firing blank charges for ceremonial duties. It also saw service in launches, picket boats, and harbor defense during the 1914–18 war. Ough’s drawings show the full construction: barrel, jacket, breech block mortise, trunnions, and rifling details (1.85" bore with 20 grooves).
