There is sometimes difficulty in selecting a subject for a small working model. Obviously the proportions must be suitable to carry motor, batteries and R/C gear, but the appearance must in some way compensate for the model's small dimensions. Whilst mulling over ideas for another model I chanced upon an old holiday photograph of an inshore fishing boat in harbour. This seemed to answer all the problems yet still produce a model full of character. Talisman is not intended to represent any specific vessel but gives the builder plenty of scope to use imagination with extra details. The scale is around 1:40 so even a 'crew' from plastic toy figures could be added.

Small models do not need much in the way of power and the prototype used a small Mabuchi RE260 motor. Two to three nicad cells are adequate, even the large 4Ah cells could be squeezed into the hull if you like long sailing sessions. With an operating weight of 2-2'/, pounds (about 1Kg) there is no problem in accommodating standard two-function radio gear
