Two Part Article
Some months back we were introduced to a gentleman, Mr. Tom Scherman, of Hollywood, California, who is probably the world's leading authority on what has to be considered the most well known submarine in the world‑Jules Verne's Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Mr. Scherman is himself a professional model maker for the Hollywood film industry and as such has completed a beautiful and very accurate model of the submarine Nautilus. The model has since been purchased by Wait Disney World in Florida and will form the basis for a display on the movie which will be a feature at the amusement park. We had heard that from time to time In past years of people here and there building their version of Nautilus for operational radio control and felt that it was time to present some sort of definitive guide for the construction of the outward scale aspects of this most popular submarine.
Part 1
Mr. Scherman's model shown here Is strictly a display subject, not designed for operation. It is some five feet long which actually make it a little small for operational application according to most individuals I have talked with who have had experience with RIC subs. We hope that plans and information presented herein, including a background on hoiv the basic design for the movie
Part 2
ALTHOUGH IT WAS NEVER MADE QUITE CLEAR IN THE MOVIE, THE ACTUAL INTERIOR ARRANGEMENT OF THE FAMOUS SUBMARINE, NAUTILUS FROM DISNEY'S"20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA" HAS LONG BEEN A SUBJECT FOR
SPECULATION AMONG MODEL BUFFS. TOM SCHERMAN, UNQUESTIONABLY THE MAN MOST QUALIFIED TO DO SO HAS LAID THE MATTER TO REST ONCE AND FOR ALL
Our thanks to Disney Studios and to
Harper Goff for their cooperation in the
