Irish Sea Ferry of that name, the plans having been drawn from a single photograph. A length of 28 in. and a beam of 4 in. were chosen, so that carriage in the boot of a car was quite feasible; the scale is approximately 1 /196th or 1/16 in. to the foot. The model was designed with the Reptone receiver and transmitter in mind, in conjunction with a Mighty Midget motor for propulsion. This very efficient little motor, running off two cycle lamp batteries (No. 800), gives the model a speed of 1.4 knots, which is approximately the scale speed, on a displacement of 54 ounces. It is also exceedingly economical, having only used two sets of batteries in roughly 40 hours running time on the upper Thames. On open stretches of the Thames she has performed very well in winds of over 30 m.p.h. and waves of 5 in. in height or more, without shipping a drop of water. On the water she appears to be much larger than a mere 28 in., due probably to her high hull and superstructure. Building time was about 80 hours, balsa being used practically throughout.
                                                Construction
The hull was made mainly from 1/2 in. balsa laminates. As the beam of the hull is 4 in., each 2 in. layer may be in one piece, but it is more economical to make each in two halves, joining them
