Building Burutu by D. J. Metcalf

The two vessels were built in 1979/80 by the old and respected firm of Robb Caledon Shipbuilders Ltd. Based at Leith in Scotland they are part of the British Shipbuilders group of companies. Since the building of these two ships they have reversed back to their original name of Henry Robb Ltd. They have been building tugs for a long while; perhaps one of their best known being the WWII rescue tug Turmoil.

We are much indebted for all their help, without which this project would not have been possible.

The tugs are operated by the authority from their Lagos base; primary work being the handling of ships and barges in harbour They do have salvage equipment fitted, and are also extensively fitted out for fire­fighting duties, hence the large monitor platform above the bridge.
