I'm a fellow with a soft spot in my heart for the old vintage aircraft, the old open cockpit types with the singing wires. And I'm a stunt flier, a breed not exactly accustomed to the intricacies of building scale types.
It seemed to me to be time for a compromise with my desires, and a semi-scale stunt design which adds a measure of scale realism to a capable full stunt aircraft was the result. After looking through a hundred odd old aircraft photos, the famed "Gee Bee" Model Y fired up my enthusiasm more than any other It could be re proportioned nicely for the demands of the stunt pattern, and yet would retain a scale resemblance with a minimum of difficult detailing. While I admire true scale aircraft, my main interest is the active contest flying of a ship suitably proportioned for the purpose. The "Gee Bee" was it . . . and our finalized elongated semiscale version is really no less weird than the actually foreshortened stubby winged aeronautical oddity of the Granville Brothers in its day and age.
