A Class FI-V15 speed model,
Length 34in.
Beam 11in.
for .61 (10 c.c.) engines
Suitable for multi-channel Radio Control
BY AURO INGLESE
Powered with a 10 c.c. Super Tigre and fitted with Varioprop 4-channel radio, the model was entered in a number of regattas and placed first once or twice, notably when the water was rough. Though now `retired', it is still in working order; it taught me a lot about this type of hull, in particular the further back the load (engine, tank, radio) the better.
The bottom was made in one piece of ply, a method shown several times in Model Boats, and was joined to the sides in the same way as Aurora. A wide strip of 1.5 mm. ply was glued along the hull centre line on the outside; this helped to maintain the shape and made the hull tremendously strong.
This method of building proved very easy and gave a result strong yet flexible enough to survive a full-speed crash into a pier without serious consequences, apart from a slightly shorter model where the extreme bow was reduced slightly! The absence of bulkheads, etc., also means the maximum possible interior room.
