A DESIGN contest was introduced to evolve an aircraft suitable for Counter Insurgency (COIN) operations by all the U.S. Armed Services and the main requirements included a crew of two in tandem, two engines, STOL capability from rough airstrips, fields and carriers together with a minima of size, complexity and cost. Of the eleven designs submitted, the North American Aviation NA300 project, designated OV-lOA was awarded a contract and thus initially went into prototype production. This aircraft has a twin boom configuration and is of all metal construction. The power plants are Garrett T 76 (650 S.H.P.) with thrust reversing Beta control An usual innovation for mounting the external stores on the OV-IOA is the use of a sponson or stub wing. The aircraft has a span of 30 ft. and a length of 39 ft. 3 in. and the model presented here is to I I 12 scale.
