 The most important requirement for you will be a good powerplant. The Thermal Hopper puts out ten to twelve ounces of static thrust OD a 6/3 prop. The model weighs 4.5 ounces. So it goes up.

   The development by the U.S. of two vertical take-off fighters aroused considerable interest in both full-scale aviation circles as well as control-line.

  What seemed to be an easy project turned out to be rather fancy. The modeller faces the same problems as the full-scale research groups. How to maintain control at zero forward speed with no outer flow on the control surfaces. Full scale must have gyro stabilization (a sort of auto-pilot), thrust greater than weight, and pilot. This apparently will do the job.
