  AT the outset, let me say that the model as described was made from plans drawn from memory, and while there are perhaps details lacking (or others added) that possibly were not in the original prototype, it is, I believe, a good likeness of the safety cars that were so much In evidence here in New England during the "twenties." (The writer lives in New­buryport, Mass.) I might also add that certain dimensions are perhaps a little out of line, but strict adherence to scale does not bother me as long as the result looks all right with these points in mind then, I shall try to describe how the model Birney was made.
