Glynn's attractive 15in. launch could almost be sailed in the bath. Quick and easy to build and with the possibility of easily modifying the superstructure, the design could be quite attractive as a schools' project.

Launches have always been popular subjects for working models. It is not hard to see why, their beamy hulls make the installation of motors, batteries and radio gear a relatively easy task. Also, such hulls tend to be very stable and tolerant of any abuse that we may inadvertently subject them to whilst sailing. As a final bonus any scale fittings can be made robust enough to withstand those little accidents that always happen. With all these advantages a launch seemed like a good idea for a small model that might lend itself to a school or club project for juniors.

I had a semi-scale model based upon the modern fast lifeboats very much in mind when drawing up the initial plans. However, it is quite easy to use the basic hull and alter the model by designing your own superstructure. A sedate cabin cruiser, fast launch, Pilot boat or even an armed patrol boat are all possible, the only limitation being your imagination!

The prototype was intended for R/C but it could make a satisfactory free-running model for juniors. Dry batteries can be used if preferred along with any suitable small electric motors. The only modification for a free-running model would he the rudder which would need to be adjustable to give the desired turning circle.
