THE S.S. Kinabalu was built by the Androssan Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Co during 1914, and was for the British North Borneo coasting service of the Sahab Steamship Co Ltd, Sandakan, provision for ten first class passengers being provided in a deckhouse on the main deck and another above on the awning deck.
She is a good example of the far east coasting steamer of the period, with awning decks and accommodation above decks.
I feel she would make an ideal if unusual model, not much space for power units, but it would be a change from the usual type of craft seen. Indeed there would appear to be a dearth of model designs of ships of this vintage, either deep sea or coastal if one excludes the series of older coasters by Phil Thomas in earlier Model Boats.
