MULTI CHANNEL RADIO CONTROL
BY R. P. REYNOLDS
I decided to build a completely new boat. So, after a few rough sketches, full size drawings were made. The original superstructure was similar to that of a police boat. The templates were made and the hull was started. When the hull was completed work stopped for about three months (owing to some exams) and when it began again I thought the hull deserved a better superstructure design. During the break in the building I had become interested in the ford GT.40 which had won the Le Mans 24 hour race So with the Ford GT. in mind I started to redesign the superstructure. As soon as this was completed, building began again. Breaks were Taken in building the superstructure to fit the engine mounting and prop shaft. When the superstructure was at last completed the radio gear (O.S. Minitron 6 channel) was installed.
First opportunity the boat was taken up to the local boating pool which was an old clay pit full of' water. (It has now been drained). The fuel tank was filled and the engine started. It started first pull ‑this was a bit unnerving. After some engine testing I placed the super structure on and away she went, with the engine shut down. The water was as flat as a mill pond After about about ten minutes to gain confidence (with the engine still shut down) I opened her up knowing very well there was at least 120 feet of water Linder the keel. The boat went really well first time Out with no outstanding faults.
