Constructional advice and background information for this small Thames tug which was still in service in 2006, although under a different name

The steel tug Blackboys, named after a Sussex village, was the first to be built and completed in just six months. She was demonstrated on the Thames at Chelsea early in 1958. She had a LOA of 13.4Im and GRT of 22. This produces a model of just over 26ins (67cm) long with a displacement of approx. 6lbs.

Model notes

I have included enough detail on the plan for a modeller to build Blackboys either as a plankon-frame model or of bread and butter construction. The builder could indeed make a 'plug and a fibreglass hull from a mould if he so wished. The body plan shows a round bilge hull form and without any great changes of section should be fairly easy to plank. My usual preference is to incorporate solid carved blocks at the bow and stern where curvature is greatest, and to provide a solid termination of the ends of the respective hull planks.
