THE DELlVERY BOAT, though small and unattractive compared to a line haul towboat, is an essential part of river commerce lt provides groceries, magazines, newspapers, personal goods and mail delivery to all crew members aboard line haul boats. The line haul boat skipper can call ahead with orders for goods, the Post Office can forward the mail to these routes, and the delivery boat can meet them en route with the goods without the larger boat having to stop.

For the novice who would like to learn how to scratchbuild, the delivery boat is a simple design that incorporates many of the basic characteristics of a large towboat. This article won't offer any spectacular superdetailing tricks. There will be cost saving ideas and shortcuts some of you seasoned craftsmen may use. I've built this project in 1/2" (1 :24) scale, which made a model 15" long and 6" wide.

You'll need some basic tools, and make do with what you have: Dremel Moto-Tool with a cut off wheel is great, but if you don't have one a hacksaw will work; small needle nose pliers; dikes or side cutlers; X-Acto knife with a #11 blade; emery boards; small flat file; tin snips for cutting brass sheets; 45-watt

THANK YOU FOR LOOKING
